About Me

oak-sunshine original sizeRuth ReconnectI hold an Advanced Diploma in Humanistic Counselling with the Dartmoor Centre for Counselling and Psychotherapy. The training was Integrative, which means I have experience of several counselling approaches. The use of the word ‘integrative’ not only describes a fusion of different techniques, it also refers to the integration of all aspects of the personality and needs of the client. This brings awareness of the emotional, rational, behavioural, physiological and spiritual, as they apply to you, delivering a tailor made service to address your evolving needs. My aim is to give you compassionate support and permission to be fully yourself, however challenging that can be.

My primary influence is

  • gestalt

and I incorporate elements and techniques from

  • Compassion Focused Therapy
  • ACT (Acceptance and Commitment Therapy)
  • mindfulness practises
  • CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy)
  • NLP (Neurolinguistic programming)
  • trauma therapy
  • psychosynthesis
  • shamanism
  • ritual

I have experienced many challenges over the years and found that different types of therapy have helped at different times, I would not be the person I am now without all of these things. This is the reason that I trained in integrative counselling  and that I offer creative approaches.  I bring my somewhat curious-shaped rucksack of life tools. I am passionate about providing consistently deep listening so that the approach I adopt is always supportive of your current needs.

I believe we all have our own relationship to the life force within us, the creative spark that gives us a thirst for life. From this place we are inspired to dream, to be hopeful. Life presents so many of us with huge challenges and then the reality gap; the difference between our cherished hopes and what our daily reality actually brings; can create much distress. As a humanistic counsellor my belief is that we all have within us the ability to heal ourselves and it is my goal as counsellor to help facilitate your own healing process, and to provide you with tools to continue that process.

I work in Dartington, Newton Abbot, Buckfastleigh and on Skype.  Within easy reach of Ashburton, Totnes, Kingsteignton and South Brent.

I hold full professional liability insurance.

I am committed to ongoing personal and professional development and regularly attend workshops and courses.

I regularly attend both 1:1 and group supervision (as is required by my professional body the BACP) so you can be reassured that I am receiving support in order to fully support you.
